Updates and Getting Back On Track

Week Two of college is officially over, and currently I'm back at home for the weekend. Now that I know (and have lived) my college schedule for a while, I'm ready to get back into the swing of my regular posting schedule. Woot!

As far as updates go, my friend Jacob has been designing the blog for my new Holocron podcast. It's close to being done, and I think it looks really good so far! I'll let you know for sure when it will go live, so stay tuned for that!

I also found time to squeeze in writing and recording the first episode, which is the introductory type. I'm going to start working on the second episode soon. What I really like is that I downloaded the Audacity Audio Recorder program, so now I'm not using the pre-installed Windows audio recorder anymore. The Audacity program allows for much better editing, and I think it actually makes me sound more like how I really do. So, yeah, I'm really excited about that!

I've also finally gotten around to listening to the Dark Knight Rises soundtrack.

Five words: Hans. Zimmer. Is. A. Genius.

True, many of his soundtracks sound similar (Inception and the Batman trilogy ones sound basically interchangeable, and in many of his songs you can hear sections that sound a lot like Pirates of the Carribbean), but he is such an amazing composer that I don't really mind anymore.

I especially love The Dark Knight Rises' third track, "Gotham's Reckoning." I love the way it "moves" (for lack of a better term), the timing, and especially the hard artifical sounds in it. But my absolute favorite part of "The Gotham's Reckoning" are the haunting background vocals of the people shouting "Rise! Rise!" over and over again. I loved hearing that chant in the film's trailer, and I still love hearing it now. If that doesn't send chills down your spine, then I don't know what will.

You can listen to the song below:

So, that's what I've been up to lately. How's school going for everyone so far? Have you done anything interesting lately? =)

  3. Nothing interesting. I'm stuck in eighth grade while you're in college :P
Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, and John Williams. What would I do without them? *sigh* Marry me and theme song of POTC, Hobbit, Rohan, Gondor, and Requiem for a dream, the theme song of LOTR, and many star wars soundtracks I won't even start naming. My life is all written down in those songs <3
I can't wait to see the new design!

  4. Audacity is definitely a great audio editor, I have been using it for years. I would recommend using the noise removal effect to get a cleaner audio recording. :)
The Dark Knight Rises is one of my favorite Zimmer scores, it was awesome in the movie.

Post away! :D
