A Wedding Day Ramble

Due to the fact that I need to finalize a list of upcoming games/movies to blog about (I'm a little behind on that), this particular post will be a Saturday Ramble.

Two of my friends from Youth Group are getting married to each other in less than four hours, and I'm so very excited for them.

But at the same time, it also feels a little...weird.

I don't know.  When I look at and hang out with my friends and family, I just kind of subconsciously assume that they'll stay the way they are for the rest of their lives.  I know that's totally impossible and won't ever happen, but I think like that anyway.  Maybe it's because I just don't like change.

This will be a big change.  These two friends have been dating each other for over three years, so it makes sense that they'd get married eventually.  Now it's happening, and if it feels surreal to me (whose only job in the wedding is to run the tech aspects) I can't even imagine how it must feel for the bride and groom.

Part of the issue - undoubtably - is that I don't like change, and even though I'm not extremely close to these two friends it's still going to be an adjustment.  The other part is probably a little, nagging tinge of... longing.

I'd like to get married one day (no matter what I said when I was five), and when I go to weddings I always feel a little bit sad.  I see other people with their dates and then the bride and groom together, and I wonder if I'll have the opportunity to be in that situation as well.  Right now it doesn't seem like it'll ever happen.  "Forever Alone" and all that.  It makes me feel a bit jealous sometimes.

It drives me crazy that I think like that.  I mean, really, it's not right to be envious of anyone, and it seems even worse right now because this is supposed to be a happy, celebratory day.

But I do think like that at least once at every wedding I've ever been to.  I'm thinking about it right now, just two hours before I have to go for the final rehearsal.  It's probably better to get it out of my system now rather than be self-pitying while I'm there.  Even so, I wish I wasn't envious at all.

It's so annoying.

At the same time, though, I know that God's got a great plan for me.  And if that involves getting married, then WOOT!  And it if involves being single for the rest of my life, then WOOT!  I know I'll be praying today that all I think about is how happy I am for my friends on their wedding day.  Being envious is just so selfish and rude and won't help anyone in the long run.

Besides, I get to dress up and get free cake.  What's not to love about that?

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to run an errand at the bank before I "get dolled up" (as my Grandma puts it).  It'll be fun, and I'm looking forward to it.

Don't let me think of myself, God.  It's not worth it.

Random Rant: Science

Not much is more complex than DNA

With midterms slowly yet steadily rearing their ugly heads at me, I'm going to be spending more time looking over my notes and studying. Most of my classes are pretty easy.

Intro to Mass Media - I already knew a lot of the material, and the stuff I didn't know previously is pretty easy to understand.

German 101 - I took German for three years in High School, so it's practically a no-brainer.

Christianity 101 - While I do get some of the dates mixed up, my parents, Sunday School teachers, pastors, and my own daily Bible readings have greatly prepared me for this class. It's no walk in the park, but it's definitely an easier class.

Stagecraft - I get to work with power drills and table saws. Enough said. =D

But the class I'm really, really going to have to study for is Biology 101. You'd think that after taking two years of Biology and one year of Anatomy that an Intro to Biology course would be a breeze for me.

But it's not. Science and math have never been my strong suits. I'm a Literature/History/Grammar/Media/Arts sort of person. Math and science are my kryptonite because my brain just refuses to work that way.

History dates? No problem. Famous literary works? No problem. Correctly editing the content, structure, and grammar of literally anybody's paper? Bring it on!

But the Quadratic Formula?

Uhhhhhhh..... 6?

Yet even though I can't seem to wrap my head around mathmatical and science concepts, I do understand and remember many cool things about science.

Like, here's something I learned in lecture not too terribly long ago:


According to scientists, we never see animals, people, plants, or anything else in this world gaining genes. They only lose genes. In fact, with every generation the human species loses 1% fitness.

So if everything living on this planet has only been losing genes, then it begs the question: how did we ever gain enough genes to evolve?

We couldn't have. If you only lose genes - and all you and your species has ever done was lose genes, as is the case on earth - then you are physically incapable of gaining genes and therefore physically incapable of evolving. You literally can't do it.

And since the theory of Macroevolution states that life evolved, then we should be seeing proof in living things today and in living things in the past that genes were gained. Because that's the only way you can evolve: by gaining genes.

But scientists have never found proof for that. They have never found one living thing that has ever gained genes. We have only lost genes, and we will only continue to lose genes.

That's incredibly interesting, isn't it? And it's another layer of facts that point towards a Creator and debunks Macroevolution even more.

Another thing I learned in science class yesterday concerned DNA. Those who believe in Macroevolution also believe that our DNA is continuing to evolve, making us better and better than the preceeding generations.

But you want to know the facts? Scientists have never seen DNA improve. And whenever DNA has been adjusted or messed with (either through drugs or via genetic defects in birth), there are only problems.

Birth defects are usually (if not always) an instance when someone's DNA has mutated or changed even slightly. If such issues had made the baby somehow better than most humans, we would call that an improvement, right?

But every instance, the changing of DNA has never resulted in improvements. Only lifetimes of pain, mental issues, loss of vision, destroyed and non-functional organs, missing limbs, and other such things. It's no wonder we call them "defects."

And yet if Macroevolution is a real phenomenon, then we should be seeing it still acting today, right?

Yes, you could argue that Macroevolution takes millions of years. But even so, it's still a process that happens over time. Shouldn't we be able to look back to historical records and find that the human species has changed even a little bit in appearance or in how their internal organs functioned? If Macroevolution is real, then you should be able to look back and see some sort of minute change, see DNA improvements, and genes being added to living things.

But we don't see any of that. Scientists have found nothing to support Macroevolution. And many of the things they discover now and yell, "See? Macroevolution is true!" are further studied and years later it is discovered that their "proof" actually better supports the belief of Creation.

I find facts like the ones I mentioned above so very interesting.

After all, what is the most accepted belief of how the world came into existence? The theory of Macroevolution.

And what is the most ridiculed belief of how the world came into existence? Intelligent Design, otherwise known as Creation.

Yet when you look at the facts - and there's waaay more than the two I mentioned in this post - it can't help but make you wonder....


Well, I hope I didn't ruffle too many feathers with this post. I'm not ridiculing Macroevolution nor am I attacking anyone who believes it. But, y'know, topics like this do have to be brought up. Discussions are good, especially those that make you think and reflect on not only what you believe but why you believe in it. Being challenged helps you to learn more about truth, your beliefs, and even yourself sometimes.

God did give us brains, after all. We might as well use them! =D

Random Rant: Soundtracks

Saturdays are my "Random Rant" days... and I seriously I have nothing to talk about.

I mean literally nothing!

I could talk about school and homework, I suppose, but I do that every other day of the week.

And I guess I could talk about what I did today, except I didn't really do anything but homework and go to Target to pick up plates for Ahsoka's birthday party.

Maybe I could rant on and on about the unfortunate fact that Target (or at least my Target) doesn't sell SWTOR game cards, but I really don't have much to say other than "they really, really should sell those cards!"

And some of you are probably wondering what I thought about the Clone Wars Season 5 premiere, but remember that I'm putting my opinions on that stuff in podcast form, so it will be a few days before I have it up and running.

So I guess that leaves me with talking about some great music I've been listening to lately.

For those of you who don't know, my favorite genre of music is soundtrack. There's just something so amazing about soundtracks, something that I can't really put my finger on. Even if I've never seen a certain movie, if it has a good soundtrack then the music alone can transport me deeper into my Imaginatrix, the place where all of my ideas are created, stored, revised, and completed. And soundtracks - good soundtracks - can get my creative juices going better than anything else. It's like the ultimate creative catalyst!

When I want to get myself into writing my book, I turn to the Star Wars or Lord of the Rings soundtracks.

When I want to get myself into writing my screenplay, I turn to The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.

Even when I want to focus on my homework, my go-to music is the "Introduce a Little Anarchy" track from The Dark Knight soundtrack.

And when I just want to get lost in my dream world, I have practically a whole playlist of songs to run through.

Honestly, I love music so much that it feels weird when there's no song playing in the background. There's just something so wonderful about music that I would seriously just sit down all day and do nothing but listen to song after song after song after song.

Is that obssession, I wonder?

A Quick Update

Guess where I am?

If you guessed college, you would be very right.

My family just left about ten minutes ago and now here I am, sitting at the desk in my dorm room, waiting until my seven o'clock Student Employment Orientation.

*sigh* I'm not sure how I feel right now. Part of me is excited about being able to experience college (Orientation is tomorrow and classes start on Tuesday). Then the other part of me is about to bawl my lights out because I miss my family.

But I'm the stoic kind of person (or stoic wannabe). I hate to cry. I mean I just hate it! But right now I'm just trying to focus on everything I need to accomplish tonight, everything that needs to be done tomorrow, just getting through one moment at a time. Writing this post is very comforting, but I should be fine tomorrow morning.

...I hope..... lol! XD

On that purely random note, HNED will now be coming to you directly from my college. WOOT! I will continue to update as usual, though I may be writing my posts later in the afternoon do to my class schedule. Tuesdays and Thursdays are especially insane (read breakfast starts at 7:30 and my first class starts at 8:00), but insanity will keep me on my toes.

For those who are interested, my dorm room is in the main building on campus and is connected by tunnel to every other building. That'll be nice during the winter so I won't have to slodge through snow. But I also live on the fifth (and topmost) level. I will have incredibly toned thighs and calves at the end of the semester!

I share a room with only one girl, a fellow freshman named Gabrielle. She's very nice and cool, and we both are very similar. I think we'll have a lot of fun together!

Well, Employment Orientation begins in about an hour and a half, and I can't think of anything else to write about. Oh! By the way - considering the overall positive comments from my podcast-themed post a couple of days ago - I will for sure be overhauling the entirety of the Radar. I'll try to get the first episode recorded and up by Sunday, and I'll let you guys know once it's up.

I'm also thinking that I might want to re-name it "The Holocron." What do you guys think?

Did Anybody Ever Tell You That The World Is Crazy?

Well, it is.

Which means now you have been told that the world is indeed crazy.

Or at least my world is, at the moment. XD

The reason why I haven't been posting as much is because my life has been extremely packed lately: VBS Day Camp all day for five days last week, packing and shopping for college (I leave on the 25th), studying for two CLEP tests (American Government and Math) that I have to take this Wednesday, and doing lots of last minute stuff with my Youth Group.

I'm hoping that this insanity will tone down by next week but, don't worry, I will make time for posting even during college. =)

So, anyway, that's my currently crazy life. Have you guys been having fun summers, or crazy ones? Are you looking forward to starting school this fall?

I Love PicMonkey!

So for the Random Rant today, I'd just like to say three words: I love PicMonkey!

For those who don't know, PicMonkey is a website where you can edit all kinds of pictures for free (http://www.picmonkey.com/, if you want to check it out).

Now I'm not all that great at editing pictures - mostly because I don't have much of an eye for color and light - but, even so, I've had a lot of fun just messing around on the website. If you haven't tried it, I would totally encourage you to head on over and just start messing around with it.

So, for your enjoyment, here are some pictures I've edited on PicMonkey. Hope you like 'em!

I call this one "Blue Man" because I upped the blue on Captain Rex's armor.

I have no idea what I was doing with this picture of Commander Bly besides playing off of the yellow on his armor.

For some reason, Captain Rex just looks so awesome in red.

I was going for an ethereal look with this one, almost like a dream sequence. I have no idea if I succeeded or not, though.

This is my favoirte edit of Captain Rex. I call it "Hardlight Blue" because, well, I made the lighting hard and focused on the blue. Yeah. That was obvious....

I call this one "Nightmare" because it looks like you're just waking up and the first thing you see is Jar Jar Binks. AAAAAAAAAAH!!! *runs off screaming*

Eye Appointment Randomness

This morning I had an eye appointment, and not because my eyes are bad or anything. My mom just decided that she'd send the whole family to the eye doctor for our once-every-three-years checkup......except she didn't make an appointment for herself because she doesn't like getting all of the drops in her eyes.

I personally don't think that's much of an excuse, but my mom just laughed when I mentioned it.

Anyways, the appointment went pretty well. The assistants (what do you call those guys, anyway? Ocipital hygenists?) put two of us in each room and, as usual, I got stuck with my sister Ahsoka (who's been doing some of the Friday commentaries with me lately). It's uncanny how we always get stuck together during appointments and who knows what else.

Maybe it's a conspiracy theory......

If you've ever been to the eye doctor (I'm gonna assume you all have), you know the drill: answer the questions, do the weird eye tests, get bright lights shone in your eyes, and get liquid dumped into your eyes (ok, not dumped, per se, but sometimes it sure feels that way).

Usually I don't mind the eye drops.....key word here being "usually." My favorite eye drops, though, were ones that made my eyes glow neon yellow and neon green when the lights went out. It was soooooo much fun! I only got those once a few years ago, but it was insanely fun while it lasted! :D

Last time we went to the doctor (about three years ago), the doc squirted my eyes so full of drops that I felt like I was underwater.

Seriously.

The whole world was blurry for, I kid you not, five hours or more. And bright lights made my head hurt, so I had to wear those weird disposable sunglasses the doc hands out sometimes, and those things aren't the most comfortable things in the world.

Thankfully I only got two drops today: an anesthetic and a diluter. Getting the diluter was weird because I've never gotten it before on account of my eyes always being diluted, even when all the lights are on. I don't know how it works, but it does. Guess they weren't diluted enough today, though. :)

Final tally at the end of the appointment was 20/20 for me, and a diagnosis for a slight astigmatism. It's very small, almost unnoticable, so it's nothing I need to worry about and I won't need to get glasses for it or anything. But it does explain why it takes me a few seonds to focus fully on stuff.

Everything was going hunky-dory.....until we left to get in the car.

Who knew the world was so cruddy bright!!

Kid you not, my eyes were so diluted that when I stepped outside it was like walking into a strobe light.

Owwwwwww..........

Needless to say, I was glad that I wasn't the one who had to drive home. It's a bright world after all (at least, it is when you get your eyes diluted).

It's been a few hours since the appointment, so my eyes are pretty much back to normal. Vision's still a little blurry, and I'm not gonna risk goin' outside for a little while longer because I'd really rather not feel like my retinas are burning to a crisp, but I should be just fine by tonight.


So that was the most exciting thing that happened today. Did anything interesting, exciting, or even mildly amusing happen to you guys today?


Oh, and just as a side note, one of my friends is getting married tomorrow (WOOOT!), so between church, the wedding, and the reception, I don't know when I'm gonna get tomorrow's post done. It'll probably be in the late afternoon or early evening, but I'll do my best to get it in. :)

Garage Sale Randomness

Let's see, what sort of random thing could I talk about today?

Um, well, my Youth Group and I just finished doing a big garage sale fundraiser to raise money to go to Challenge this summer.

For those of you who don't know, Challange is a Christian youth conference that happens every other year in different states. My Youth Group went two years ago, and they're going again this year (it's in New Orleans this time). I would have liked to go, but my family's doing so much this summer that I would end up killing myself if I put that into my schedule as well. Maybe I'll go next time...

But even though I'm not going, I offered to help with the garage sale to help out my friends. That, and the sale was taking place at my house, so I would probably have helped out anyway. :D

It wasn't exactly a great day for a sale. It was gray and overcast all morning (we started at seven in the morning O.O) and then started raining in the afternoon. By two o'clock, it was pouring sheets of rain and it was thundering so loudly that my dog was whining and shaking like a leaf. And then the garage was kind of cold, and I slept in a bit late so my brain was not exactly working for the first half of the sale.

Even so, it was a lot of fun hanging out with my friends and knowing that I was helping them out. We made quite a bit, so that will go quite a ways to helping them meet their fundraising goal. Woot!

Well, that was a fairly random thing to talk about, but, hey, that's what my Random Rant days are about! :D
